What the Transition Area Taught Me

What the Transition Area Taught Me

This morning, I volunteered with Team Rocket Tri Club at the Rocketman Triathlon, working in the transition area. I wore my Veteran Athletes United (VAU) shirt to represent and support the organization while helping with the event.

I volunteered intentionally. My goal was to gain firsthand insight into how athletes organize and execute their transitions, learn more about race-day flow and logistics, network with people in the local triathlon community, and become more familiar with the culture and rhythm of the sport.

Being inside the transition area gave me a perspective I would not have gotten simply by watching from the sidelines. Every opportunity like this helps make the triathlon world a little less unfamiliar and gives me another piece of practical knowledge to carry into my own training and eventual race day.

It was also another opportunity to represent the organizations and mission behind For the 22 while becoming more connected to the community I am entering.
