Silence the Enemy

We begin any challenge with optimism. With hope. With a strange juxtaposition of apprehension and excitement.
Those emotions propel us into action. They provide that first push of momentum that gets us across the starting line.
Invariably, though, the voices come.
Some come from without.
The naysayers. The people who are more comfortable with the version of you they already know, because watching you change forces them to confront something within themselves. Your ambition becomes uncomfortable. Your discipline becomes an accusation you never intended to make.
And some voices come from within.
That one can be much harder to silence.
Okay. You tried.
You did your best.
But this is getting too hard.
You're too weak.
You're out of your element.
You can't do this.
It's impossible.
Those are dangerous moments—not because the voice is necessarily loud, but because it sounds like your own.
And if you listen long enough, you can begin to mistake fear for wisdom.
That's when you have to take those thoughts captive and change the narrative.
No.
This is hard.
I am tired.
And that's the point.
Nothing beautiful was created without work.
You put in the work. You sculpt your mind, your body, and your spirit through repetition, discomfort, failure, and perseverance. You will get tired. You will have bad days. You will question yourself. There will be moments when the distance between where you are and where you're trying to go feels impossibly wide.
Keep moving.
Surround yourself with people who love you, believe in you, and aren't threatened by the person you're becoming.
Create boundaries with the doubters.
Be careful whose voices you allow into the quiet places of your mind.
Because eventually something changes.
The thing that once felt impossible becomes difficult.
Then the difficult becomes familiar.
And one day, you look back and realize you've become capable of something the old version of you couldn't imagine.
The enemy will still speak.
Fear will still whisper.
Doubt will still show up when you're exhausted, hurting, or standing at the edge of something you've never done before.
But it doesn't get the final word.
You do.
Silence the enemy.
Then keep moving forward.
